CHALK 2 CHAMPIONS BECOMES RIVERS ACADEMY,
AND MAKES MOVE TO NEW, CUSTOM DESGINED SPACE
ON MAIN STREET IN ALPHARETTA.
Rivers Academy, formerly known as Chalk 2 Champions, will be moving into a new custom designed building on Main Street in Alpharetta in July with the enrollment office open April 1.. Melinda Willis, founder and director of Chalk 2 Champions, explains that due to the unprecedented success of the school in the last two years, they have simply outgrown their current space.
The condensed school week, and standard exceeding college prep curriculum have combined for a unique, highly successful alternative to traditional school. Studies show that only 3.5 hours a day are used for instruction in traditional school settings. This fact, coupled with the continually growing number of kids that are pursuing and succeeding in an outside passion, created the impetus for foundation of the specialized school. Many of the current students, Grades 5-12, are academically advanced athletes and performing artists that became exhausted and burned out in traditional schools.
“Our school offers the much sought after balance that families crave, and gives students control of their education and their lives”, says Melinda Willis, founder and director. “Chalk 2 Champions has become well known and respected in the academic community, and will remain a part of Rivers Academy as a foundation to help further children’s dreams.”
The new building, located at 38 North Main Street will occupy the same site as a familiar historic, family farmhouse. The Richard Debban design features a clock tower and is loaded with architectural character that city officials believe will fit in seamlessly with the existing charm of downtown. Side streets are being modified to maximize accessibility, and facilitate the safe drop off and pick up of students. The building will officially open in July, but students are already registering for the limited number of spaces for next year.
