Masters in Education Administration, National University

I am amazed by the growth of Rivers Academy since the school first started, and I'm extremely lucky to have been a part of it as one of the first teachers. I came to Rivers Academy as a language arts teacher, and quickly realized how important this school was to me. I began working as the teacher liaison during my third year of teaching. Since then, I have served as the Director of Admissions and the Co-Director while completing my Masters in Education Administration. I am confident that my roles as an administrator and, most importantly, a teacher have provided genuine experiences that have assisted me in my goals as Principal at Rivers Academy. This school is more than a unique program; it's an engaging experience where teachers love to teach and families and students love to belong!

Bachelors of Arts in History, Georgia State University
Masters of Education in Educational Leadership, Georgia State University

Experience

Working within the realm of education is both a calling and a passion for me; I am grateful to have worked in education in a variety of roles over the past ten years. After teaching in Georgia's public school system and working in curriculum development for the Archdiocese of Atlanta, I came to Rivers Academy during it's second academic year to both continue my teaching career and pursue graduate studies. At our Alpharetta campus, I served as both a social studies teacher and as part of the administrative team as the Student Life Coordinator. After being a part of the Rivers family for a number of years, I have realized that our school provided for me the very thing we strive to provide for our students, a balanced pathway to grow and excel in my craft. As principal of our Atlanta campus, my primary goal is to help develop balanced pathways to student success by collaborating closely with our students, families and faculty to create a strong and dynamic community of learning.

Academic Dean - Alpharetta Campus

Education

Bachelors of Science in Biology, University of Georgia and a Masters in Educational Leadership, Kennesaw State University

Experience

While pursuing my biology degree at the University of Georgia, I was able to work in a research lab, to tutor and to work as a lab assistant. Of all these roles, I enjoyed teaching the most. I began my teaching career at Rivers Academy with a position in Biology and Life Science. Knowing that I wanted to be part of the mission of Rivers continuing to impact students, I received a Masters in Leadership and moved into administration. The role of Academic Dean has been such an amazing experience. I believe that we have a unique program that challenges each child to push his/her limits and rise to the occasion. I enjoy having the chance to know all of our wonderful students and watching them succeed from a "different perspective." I am also a wife and a mother of two little girls.

Academic Dean - Atlanta Campus

Education

Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Computer Information Systems, Piedmont College

Experience

My career at Rivers Academy began in 2008 teaching high school math and science. In 2015-2016, I had the privilege of being a part of the team that began working towards the opening of our Atlanta Campus. Now in administration, I really enjoy working with the students on an individual basis and helping them develop a plan for success. I believe strongly in changing the way we educate our youth by utilizing and emphasizing flexibility, technology and extracurricular passions. My focus as Academic Dean is to allow our students to develop their skills academically while still having the time and energy to engage in sports, performing arts and other activities that are so important to our students’ vitality. In order to best prepare our graduates for college and future careers we, at Rivers, encourage our students to excel; not only in school but outside the classroom as well.
